Pastor John Murley

Camp Woody Acres President

Elder John Murley serves as President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Newfoundland and Labrador, a role he has held since September 2023. He is deeply committed to sharing the love, hope, and transforming grace of Jesus Christ throughout the province.

Elder Murley brings nearly three decades of pastoral, community, and leadership experience to his ministry. Prior to his current appointment, he served as Senior Pastor of the Edmonton South Seventh-day Adventist Church in Alberta for 14 years. Earlier in his ministry, he pastored congregations in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, for 10 years and the Botwood–Cottrell’s Cove district for 5 years. He has also served in key leadership roles as Youth Director and Evangelism Coordinator, reflecting his passion for discipleship, evangelism, and nurturing the next generation of church leaders.

Throughout his career, Elder Murley has been actively involved in community service. He has served on the boards of several group homes and contributed to various community organizations and committees, including Choices for Youth and local Crime Prevention Committees. Before entering pastoral ministry in 1997, he worked as a Social Worker in Child Protection Services and later served as a Senior Investigator with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Elder Murley is a graduate of Kingsway College in Oshawa, Ontario, and holds a degree in Theology from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. In addition to his theological training, he also holds a degree in Police Sciences.

A strong advocate for Children’s and Youth Ministries, Elder Murley is dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities that help young people grow spiritually, develop leadership skills, and experience the joy of Christian service.

Elder Murley and his wife, Marilyn, have been married for nearly four decades. They are the proud parents of two sons: Shane, an RCMP officer serving in Alberta, and AJ, who is employed with Hockey Canada. They are also blessed with three grandchildren.

Kaitlynn Harushimana

Camp Woody Acres Director

Kaitlynn Harushimana was born and raised in Newfoundland and Labrador. She graduated from Burman University in the fall of 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Wellness Management and a minor in Religious Studies.

Since 2015, Kaitlynn has been actively involved in directing Vacation Bible School programs across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Following graduation, she and her husband, Etienne, answered the call to serve in ministry—Etienne as Pastor of the Marystown SDA Church, and Kaitlynn as Camp Woody Acres and Communications Director. In 2021, they welcomed their first daughter, Amia, followed by Anezi in 2023. Motherhood has deepened Kaitlynn’s passion for children’s and youth ministry, reinforcing her commitment to investing in the next generation.

Kaitlynn has also served as the Children’s Ministry liaison for SDACC and currently represents Newfoundland and Labrador in this role. In 2025, their family moved to St. John’s, where Etienne continues his pastoral ministry and Kaitlynn is able to work more closely with youth and camp initiatives. Together, they are excited to follow God’s leading and continue growing His kingdom as a family.

Camp Woody Acres Superintendent

Jack Charles Baier Jr. was born on November 28, 1946, in New York City, New York. He graduated from Greater New York Academy in 1965 and went on to serve in the United States Army as a medic during the Vietnam War (1967–1968). Following his service, he attended Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Massachusetts.

Jack built a career as an auto, transport truck, and refrigeration mechanic for over 20 years. He is both an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified mechanic in the United States and a Red Seal certified mechanic in Canada.

In 1974, he married Rosalind Dianne Clarke of Kelligrews, Newfoundland, and relocated to Canada where they had two wonderful children. Jack has faithfully served the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Newfoundland and Labrador in various accounting roles for over 30 years. Since 1990, he has also been closely involved with Woody Acres Camp, contributing to its operation and maintenance.
